Notes | The Heinz Memorial Chapel is a gift to the University of Pittsburgh in memory of Henry John Heinz and his mother, Anna Margaretta Heinz. Designed by the late Charles Z. Klauder, it is French Gothic of the 13th century. Sixty-nine shields: religious insignia of the oldest foreign and American colleges, and the seals of the city and of the commonwealth are carved on the exterior. Inside are 23 stained glass windows symbolizing Christian teaching, exemplified in the lives of heroes and heroines from the Bible American history, science, literature, music, and the arts. These windows were designed and set by Charles J. Connick of Boston. |
