NotesSt. Patrick's Cathedral, Fifth Avenue and Fiftieth Street was dedicated May 25, 1879, by Archbishop Hughes after having been under construction for a period of 26 years on a plot owned by the Catholic Church since 1810. It cost $850,000.00, without furnishings or altars. It covers an entire block and its topmost spires rise 398 feet above the street level.
