Notes | Northern New Mexico. Located 9 miles East of Espanola, New Mexico, on the Truchas Road, the church was built in 1816 as an offering of thanks by Don Bernardo Abeyta. There are strong beliefs that the sacred sand pit in the chapel contains powers to cure, and a room filled with discarded crutches and other devices bear testimony to this belief. |
