Notesis one of the most venerable and historic edifices to be found along the Atlantis seaboard. This structure was used by Lord Charles Cornwallis, Commander of the British forces, as a stable, when he captured Wilmington in 1781, and during the Civil War was utilized as a hospital for wounded Union soldiers. On the wall of the church hangs a wonderful painting, showing the head of Christ, captured from a pirate ship in 1719.
