Notes | Present church begun in 1831 on property set aside for religious use when St. Louis was founded in 1764. The Old Cathedral was once the Mother Church for a diocese almost as vast as the entire American West. "The Crucifixion" painted by Charles F. Quest, St. Louisan, is a reproduction from the original by Diego Velazques 1628-1639 now in Prado, Madrid. |
