NotesJohnson Chapel might well be called the "heart of Amherst College". Its principal donor was Adam Johnson, a one-legged carpenter of Pelham. Completed in 1827, it originally housed the chapel, museum, laboratory, recitation rooms, and library. Over the years the interior has been altered, but the exterior design remains largely unchanged. The building now contains the offices of the President, Deans, and Registrar.
