Notes | Of the Christopher Wren School, the church is suggestive of St. Martins-in-the-field, of London. Founded in 1755 as a branch of the Church of Scotland, the present building is a reproduction of one one erected in 1819 and destroyed by fire in 1889. Lowell Mason, while organist here, composed the famous hymn, "From Greenland's Icy Mountains". In 1885, Woodrow Wilson was married to Ellen Axson, granddaughter of the Pastor, the marriage taking place in the manse. |
