NotesSt. Joseph's Catholic Cathedral, Third Ave. and Beach Streets, is the traditional downtown church in San Diego. Spanish in architecture, its tall bell-tower and red-roofed basilica are landmarks in the heart of the city. Founded in 1875 and several times enlarged, declared a Cathedral in 1936, it has served four generations of residents and citizens in San Diego.
