Notes | Founded 1692 by Father Kino. The old frescoes, paintings, statuary and vestments in the interior of the San Xavier Mission represent some of the finest and best preserved primitive art, of the period, in any of the early missions of the Southwest. Most of the building and carving was done by the Papago Indians under the direction of the priests. The works of art were brought from Spain. |
