This is a constructed collection of Ethiopic manuscripts written mainly in the language of Ge’ez, with a few items written in Amharic. This collection includes numerous books of Psalms, Devotions, Prayer Books, a New Testament, and traditional Ethiopic texts. The Ge’ez language, also known as Classical Ethiopic, is no longer spoken but is still the liturgical language of the Ethiopian and Eritrean Orthodox Church. The collection is still being researched by Special Collections staff. We welcome information that experts and scholars may have on these manuscripts as we expand the manuscript descriptions.
