Notes "Not to see the San Miguel Mission is not to see Santa Fe." So say countless visitors to the Oldest Church in the U.S.A. The San Miguel Mission is located at 401 Old Santa Fe Trail, just three blocks from the historic Santa Fe Plaza. The original abode walls, which are five feet thick, withstood the siege of the Pueblo Uprising of 1680. After the upper part of the tower was destroyed by a storm, in 1872, the facade underwent remodeling and assumed its present appearance since 1955. From 1610 to the present time, it has successively served as a place of worship for Tiascaian Indians, Southwest Indians converted to Christianity, Spanish Conquistadores and their followers, Santa Fe families, the Christian Brothers and resident students of the old St. Michael's High School, local people and tourists visiting the Capital City. Short, free tours are conducted in this historic church daily.
