Notes | The Mission San Diego de Alcala was founded by Fra Junipero Serra, the first of a chain of 21 Franciscan missions built in California. The Mission suffered a number of Indian attacks and pratically destroyed in 1775. It was rebuilt and continued in active service until the Mexican secularization in 1829. It was restored in 1930 and is now in active use. |
